Using the footprint of a 1940's rambler as the basis for a practically new home, we were able to create a design that responds to the desires of a post 2000 family while staying in character with the scale of the neighborhood. A front open porch, to encourage interaction between neighbors and a rear screen porch to encourage interaction with nature were two of the more important features of this design. The unseen features include a highly efficient heating system coupled with full spray foam insulation and high performance windows to minimize air leakage. We believe the quality of a home should be more than skin deep.

This project was a transformation of a typical cape cod story-and-a-half attic into a master suite. We worked completely inside the confines of the existing structure to create a haven which included a master bedroom, built-in closets and dressers and a bathroom with a walk-in shower.

By adding a 10' x 20' foundation to accommodate a mudroom, laundry  room, bathroom, and dining room to this home, we were able to expand the kitchen and add a central staircase that leads to a full master suite and two guest rooms. We were careful to maintain the one-and-a-half story scale of the existing home.

Our own home has been a labor of love with ongoing projects spanning eleven years. When we purchased our home nothing had been done to it for 50 years, moss was growing off the roof and there were electrical wires hanging from the ceiling. It was the perfect home for us!

Due to strict zoning codes that prohibited the addition of an upper level, this project was mostly confined to interior remodeling of the existing walk-out lower level and the main level. The owners desired an open floor plan with a dedicated entry, kitchen, sitting area, formal dining, and an office on the main level. A new double glass door and Wood deck were added to connect the inside to the beautiful back yard garden. The Master bed / bath/ closet, two guest rooms and guest bath and laundry are on the Lower walk-out level. A new open stair was used to connect the two levels.

In this project we removed walls and low ceilings, and added skylights and a new kitchen. The end result is an airy and sun-filled space.

This project was a fun new challenge for us… the existing house had been remodeled in the eighties at which time the kitchen had been moved to the walkout basement. Our task was to totally remodel the space including heated floors, kitchen, dining nook, dining area, bathroom, laundry, and cozy fireplace area.

We set forth on this task by removing the floors, stairs and most of the walls. The new stairs and spaces were opened to each other and the main level of the house. The end result is a warm yet modern space.

In the Stolowski project we have relocated the small cramped kitchen in this whole house remodel to give it a better connection to the backyard patio and the living areas of the house.

Auchter Project - We remodeled and expanded the original kitchen and added a dining sunroom. The backsplash tiles were handmade by Mosaic tile company in Minneapolis.
